Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, has urged the directorate cadre within the Ministry to enhance their Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills, particularly in PowerPoint and Excel. The directive was issued during an intensive training program for grade levels 17-15 at the Ministry's Headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Sani-Gwarzo highlighted the importance of utilizing PowerPoint tools to improve presentations on project monitoring and evaluation, routine activities, and other key responsibilities. Emphasizing the need for directors to independently prepare their PowerPoint presentations, he noted the upcoming Performance Management System (PMS), which will require individual proficiency in ICT skills.
"I want to advise the directors, deputy and assistant directors: do not allow someone to prepare your PowerPoint, do it yourself," said Dr. Sani-Gwarzo. He underscored the significance of owning a personal laptop, stating, "As a rule of thumb, everyone must own a laptop even if the government is not providing enough. It is like food for you on your job."
In a related development, CP. Dr. Emmanuel N. Garba, the Force Medical Officer, highlighted challenges within the Nigeria Police Medical Services. He pointed out the presence of 164 healthcare facilities nationwide, but identified issues such as manpower shortages, lack of basic and life support ambulances, and inadequate funding affecting the efficient performance of personnel.
Responding to these challenges, the Permanent Secretary expressed optimism that ongoing police reforms would address these issues, pledging the Ministry's support to achieve optimal service delivery. He remarked, "The best thing to happen is not a journey to ultimate designation but the planning and setting the foundation stone of that journey."
